The Asphalt series from Gameloft has enjoyed pretty good success till now, especially on the iOS and Android platforms. Android and iOS users have been enjoying the latest Asphalt 7 with super high quality graphics and fluid gameplay but we windows phone users have been slapped with the Asphalt 5.
This version was released back in August 2010 (yes 2010!) and Gameloft has released it in Marketplace in 2012. The download size is 109MB which is at par with the sizes of NFS Underground and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit.
Unfortunately, the gameplay sucks, its interface sucks. I might have given it 5 stars if it was released in 2002, but no way does it deserves even a single star in 2012. I downloaded the trial version and to be honest, I am just too embarrassed to buy the full version.
Here is list of cars – Audi R8, Audi TT-RS, Audi Q7, Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4, Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV, Lamborghini Reventón, Ferrari 599 XX, Ferrari California, Ferrari F430 16M, Ferrari FXX Evolution, Nissan 370Z, Nissan GT-R R35, Bugatti Veyron 16.4, BMW X6M, Caterham CSR Superlight, 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS, Ducati 1198, Ducati Monster 1100s, Ford GT, Ford Shelby GT500, Gumpert Apollo, Kawasaki Z750, Kawasaki ZX6-R, Lotus 2-Eleven, Lotus Evora, Mercedes E Class, Mercedes ML 63 AMG, Mercedes-Benz S65 Black Series, MINI Cooper S, RUF 3400 K, RUF Dakara, RUF Rt 12.
Pretty exhaustive list. True, but the graphics sucks, even on my fairly new Nokia Lumia 710 which has better processor and graphics than the first generation windows phone devices.
Menus look prehistoric like someone from the dinosaur age designed them. Gameplay is downright pathetic too, not at all fluid like the two year old NFS Underground or Hot pursuit that was released last year. The game looks nothing like it does in official screenshots.
Verdict – Do not waste your money on it. If you like racing games, NFS Hot Pursuit is still the safe bet. [Marketplace link for Asphalt 5]
