Nokia Drive on HTC, Samsung WP7 Phones

While Nokia has brought Nokia Maps to the windows phone devices, it has kept Nokia Drive app exclusive to its Lumia smartphones. This tutorial is a strictly unofficial way of getting it to work on any Windows Phone device out there. Keep in mind that your phone must be running Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) operating system. Follow these steps very carefully and you will be running Nokia Drive in almost no time.

1) You need a developer unlocked device. While there is a free way of getting your windows phone developer unlocked by using our ‘unlock windows phone for free’ method, but the major downside of the method is that you will have to downgrade your phone to the first release as it only works on devices with pre-Nodo firmware, let alone Mango. Also, Most of the new phones already come with Mango update pre-installed. That is why, I suggest getting unlocked via ChevronWP7’s labs which works on Mango devices. I personally tested it on my Mozart and HD7 and it worked fine. It costs just 9 dollars too (we are not associated with them in any way).

2) To run their utility, you will need quite a lot of tools and apps. First, you will need to be running the latest version of Zune desktop app, windows phone support tools (link – links are under the ‘resolution’ section there) and Windows Phone developer tools. I suggest getting developer tools’ ISO (<-direct download for ISO) and then installing it by mounting it as virtual drive. You can use a free software like MagicISO Virtual disk manager to mount the ISO as a drive on your PC.

3) After you have used the Chevron unlock utility to unlock the device, download the XAP files of it from here (mirror link) (courtesy of xda-developers). Use the device manager from touchxperience (link) to install the XAP file to your windows phone.
